OUR COMMUNITY
Glen Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Squad (GRVAS) is so much more than the first responders who arrive for a 911 medical emergency. Both behind the scenes and with a formidable presence, members of GRVAS provide an integral element of the safety component of so many events in the Borough.

Lager Run & Ashenfelter
At each of these events, at least 30 GRVAS members volunteer for various roles that comprise the EMS Branch of the Incident Command Structure created to keep all participants and spectators safe during the race. We work closely with the GRPD and provide a critical element of the Incident Command Structure for race day. Our ambulances are staged at strategic locations throughout the race; bike teams travel the race course and assist racers and spectators as needed; members staff a first aid tent to attend to racers and spectators.
Rhino “Rob” Romp
GRVAS high school seniors enthusiastically make up a large part of the teams that assist at this fun run held by Ridgewood Avenue School each spring, similar to the structure that is required for the Lager Run and Ashenfelter.
Scouting
GRVAS members volunteer countless hours teaching first aid to all levels of boy scouts and girls scouts to assist them in achieving merit badges. Our High School Members are instrumental in running these programs. GRVAS has proudly supported and been the beneficiary of a number of Eagle Scout projects. High School Football Games
GRVAS provides EMS support for all in-town high school football games. Additional volunteers are required to stand-by games in the event of an injury to a player and provide EMS treatment and transport as necessary. There is no charge for this service.
CPR Training
Certified CPR instructors from GRVAS volunteer to provide all levels of CPR and First Aid training to a variety of groups and organizations in town: Pilgrim Nursery School, GRAA coaches, teachers and senior citizens. There is no charge for these classes, but donations are greatly appreciated. The card issuance fee imposed by the American Heart Association is the responsibility of the group being trained.
